Introducing the ACNA Catechism Study Tool
I’m pleased to announce the launch of the ACNA Catechism Study Tool here on Amateur Anglican. Using Claude AI, I’ve been able to develop something I’ve long wanted but never had the technical skills or time to build myself.
What It Is
This interactive study tool brings together the Anglican Church in North America’s catechism “To Be a Christian” with my ongoing Coffee and Catechism podcast series. Instead of jumping between podcast episodes and PDF documents, you can now study systematically through a single, integrated platform.
The first section, “Beginning with Christ” (questions 1-17), is now live and includes:
- All 17 questions from the Gospel section with complete answers
- Scripture references for each question
- Direct links to the corresponding Coffee and Catechism podcast episodes
- Easy navigation between questions
- Mobile-friendly design for study anywhere
Why I Built This
While working through the catechism on the podcast, I kept thinking about how scattered the learning experience can be. You’re listening to an episode, maybe following along in a PDF, perhaps taking notes somewhere else. Why not bring it all together in one place?
The tool emerged from my own study habits. I wanted something that would let people engage with the catechism text, hear the audio commentary, and move seamlessly between questions without hunting around for episode numbers or page references.
How It Works
Each question includes the full catechism answer, relevant Scripture passages, and a link to the specific Coffee and Catechism episode that covers that topic. You can work through the questions sequentially or jump directly to any question that interests you.
The design philosophy is simple: common faith for the common man. No bells and whistles that don’t serve the core purpose of systematic catechetical study.
What’s Next
The remaining three sections of the catechism are in development:
- Believing in Christ (Questions 18-145) – The Apostles’ Creed
- Belonging to Christ (Questions 146-270) – The Lord’s Prayer
- Becoming Like Christ (Questions 271-368) – The Ten Commandments
These will follow the same format and integrate with the corresponding podcast episodes as they’re released.
A Note on Expectations
This isn’t a flashy app with progress tracking and gamification. It’s a straightforward study tool that does what it’s designed to do: help you work through the ACNA catechism systematically while connecting to the audio content.
The goal is faithful catechesis, not user engagement metrics.
Try It Out
Head over to the ACNA Catechism Study Tool and start with the “Beginning with Christ” section. Whether you’re new to Anglican theology or deepening your understanding, the catechism provides a solid foundation for growth in the faith.
As always, I’d welcome your feedback on how to make this more useful for individual study and small group discussion. The tool exists to serve the church’s teaching ministry, and your input helps shape that purpose.
The ACNA Catechism Study Tool is available at amateuranglican.com/acna-catechism. The catechism text is used with permission and is freely available from the Anglican Church in North America.
