On Freedom and Liberty
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
So, there you sit. Wondering where I am going with this. To be set apart by Christ is to be truly free. My duty, my citizenship is in heaven. Like the Jews, we are travelers in a foreign country.
The Apostle Paul told us to be good citizens where we are. So here were are, we Americans, in this country. With a constitution that begins thusly:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
It’s hard not to be inspired by all these words.
I make no point here. I wish to leave you with a question:
Do we have the Blessings of Liberty secured to us?
