The Postulant’s Journey — Day 611

1–2 minutes

read

Rest and recovery day. RSV is loosening its grip, I think.

What I did do was think — flat on the couch, letting the esse and bene esse question run. Specifically in relation to the Abuja Affirmation and the Global Anglican Future Conference movement.

The arc from the Jerusalem Declaration to the present has been reactionary by nature. Which is understandable — it was a response to a genuine crisis. But I keep wondering how much careful ecclesiological thinking actually preceded the boundary crossings, the parallel consecrations, the new jurisdictions. Did anyone work out the esse/bene esse question before acting on it?

I’m not sure they did.

Tomorrow: back to the videos.
