Third Sunday of Easter. Some Browne before the morning, then church, then most of the day with brothers and sisters in Christ — which is its own kind of formation.
Word came that a dear priest mentor suffered a heart attack earlier this week. He is stable, but more surgery lies ahead. I would ask your prayers for his full recovery. He has given much to many.
Browne’s argument on election is becoming clearer the more I read. The apostles addressed their congregations as elect — and then immediately urged them to live accordingly. Election in Scripture is never a cushion. It is always a call to watchfulness, sobriety, and perseverance. St. Peter calls his readers an elect generation and in the same breath tells them to abstain from fleshly lusts and give diligence to make their calling and election sure.
The elect are not the comfortable. They are the called.
