The Postulant’s Journey — Day 631

Today was formative in two senses.

On the academic side, I began working on my research paper for Church and Sacraments — a compare and contrast of the three church polities: congregational, Presbyterian, and Episcopal. My contention is that the two former were reactions, shaped as much by the malfeasance of Rome and the political pressures of the Reformation period as by positive theological conviction.

The happier part of the day was meeting our granddaughter Maya for the first time. My wife wisely waited a few days to give our daughter-in-law space to find her footing at home. Worth the wait. Such a sweet child. Big brother Elliot made sure we knew whose little sister she was — and thoroughly approved of the soft throw blanket my wife brought for his mommy.

Life is very good.

Tomorrow: I write.
